PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis)

PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) is a medication treatment that is highly effective in reducing the risk of HIV infection. When taken as prescribed, PrEP is 99% effective in preventing HIV from sex. Oral PrEP is also at least 74% effective against HIV from sharing needles and other drug injection equipment. PrEP can now be administered as an injection every two months.

Truvada®
emtricitabine 200 mg/tenofovir disoproxil fumarate 300 mg

A once daily oral medication for HIV-negative individuals at risk of HIV through sex or injection drug use. Generic Truvada® is also available. Learn more.

Descovy®
emtricitabine 200 mg/ tenofovir alafenamide 25 mg

A once daily oral medication for HIV-negative men at risk for HIV infection through. Descovy® is not for individuals assigned female at birth who are at risk for HIV through receptive vaginal sex. Learn more.

Apretude
Cabotegravir 200 mg/mL

An injectable PrEP received every 2 months for HIV-negative individuals at risk for HIV infection through sex. Requires an initial injection the first and second month, then routinely every two months. Apretude is not recommended for HIV prevention in individuals who inject drugs. Learn more.

Ready, Set, PrEP is a government-funded program that provides free PrEP medication to those who meet certain requirements. If you don’t have prescription drug insurance coverage, call us to see if you qualify and we’ll guide you through the enrollment process.

Financial assistance programs available from drug manufacturers can help cover copays for those with prescription medication insurance coverage. Contact a PrEP Coordinator to discuss eligibility and for help facilitating the enrollment process.

Post-Exposure Prophylaxis

PEP (Post-Exposure Prophylaxis) is a short-term medication regimen to prevent HIV infection in an HIV-negative individual after a potential exposure to HIV. PEP treatment is for emergency situations and must be initiated within 72 hours in order to be effective. For emergency access to PEP, please contact us immediately!
